This is an original production cel and background set-up from the Hanna Barbera Studios television special "Alice in Wonderland (or What’s a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?)" (1966). This set-up features the main characters, Alice (voiced by Janet Waldo) and Cheshire Cat (voiced by Sammy Davis Jr) the groovy, rockin', swingin' feline beatnik!
The artwork was created at the HANNA-BARBERA studios in Hollywood, California, and used in the production of this cartoon. The overall measurements of the artwork is 8" x 9.5” inches and the image aperture measures 7" x 9” inches. This set-up was prepared by the Hanna-Barbera studio, and typically, the cels and backgrounds were trimmed to insert into a matt board frame. The characters are hand-painted onto two seperate animation cels, and placed against a hand-painted background.
Cels such as these are EXTREMELY RARE as most were destroyed, so finding artwork such as this is virtually impossible! This vintage piece of artwork originates from the estate of a Hanna-Barbera employee, and the artwork is issued with a certificate of authenticity.
Please note that the newspaper press ad images are for reference only, and is not sold with the artwork.
